The talks between Russia and China on the supply of new weapons and military equipment are almost completed, according to China Times, said the president of the United Aircraft Corporation Mikhail Pogosyan.
According to him, China’s Ministry of Defense intends to acquire a large batch of Su-35 fighters, air defense missile systems S-400, as well as anti-ship cruise missiles (their type is not specified), writes Lenta.ru.
The deal between Russia and China on gas is a breakthrough in bilateral relations, and China’s demand for Russian gas may increase in the future, said experts from China, interviewed on Thursday by RIA Novosti.
Russia and China on Wednesday completed long negotiations on deliveries of Russian natural gas to the Chinese market; it has become the main achievement to end a two-day visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Shanghai on Wednesday. The signed contract worth $ 400 billion is designed for 30 years.
According to the Director of the Centre of Russian Studies of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Pan Dawei, relations between Russia and China are developing very successfully and steadily over the recent years. “This transaction is of strategic importance for the development of relations between our countries. China and Russia have trust to each other, they have high degree of mutual understanding, and on the basis of good political relations there will rapidly develop economic cooperation”, – he said.
Implementation of the contract for the sale of gas to China for four years will become the largest construction project in the world, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
According to him, investments in infrastructure as part of the gas contract of Russia and China will exceed $ 70 billion. “This will be the biggest construction in the world for the next four years. The total investment volume only from the Russian side is about $ 55 billion. In addition, it is now difficult to count, but I think at least $ 20 billion – from the Chinese side,”- said Putin.
He noted that the work on the preparation of the contract was difficult. “As a result of mutual concessions we managed to reach not just acceptable, but also in satisfactory conditions of the contract for both sides. Both sides eventually were satisfied with the arrangements and the price and other conditions,” – said Putin.
Russia and China will hold the first joint inspection of the boundary line, said a joint statement of the two leaders issued after the talks between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jingping in Shanghai.
According to the document, the parties intend, “using the possibilities of joint Russian-Chinese commission on the border and other mechanisms, to deepen cooperation on border issues, including the first joint inspection of the border lines, as well as to regulate the situation in the border rivers, to fight against cross-border crime”.
The situation on the Korean Peninsula
Russia and China have expressed concern about the unresolved nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula. “The parties agree that should not be implemented the methods of force in the subregion, all existing problems should be resolved at the negotiating table. There was reached an agreement to coordinate and closely cooperate in the interests of creating effective institutions for peace and security in NEA (Northeast Asia),” – said the joint statement.
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived with an official visit to China.
According to presidential aide Yury Ushakov, the head of state will hold talks in Shanghai with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and on Wednesday he will take part in the summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
During the visit, Putin will also hold separate bilateral meetings with some of the participants of the summit, in particular, with Mongolian President Elbegdorj Tsakhia, Afghan President Hamid Karzai, President of Iran Hassan Rouhani.
There’s also planned a private meeting between Putin and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. “We plan to exchange views on all important global issues, including the situation in Ukraine,” – the head of state press secretary Dmitry Peskov told ITAR -TASS. In addition, Putin will meet with former Chinese President Jiang Zemin, who, according to Ushakov, the president “knows well”.
Following the meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin and Vice Prime Minister of the State Council of China Wang Yan, held in the Chinese capital, there was signed a protocol on the establishment of a high-level working group to oversee the implementation of priority projects of strategic Russian-Chinese economic cooperation.
“We decided to choose the most interesting projects and take them under the personal control of the two vice-prime ministers,” – Dmitry Rogozin said after the meeting in an interview with Itar-Tass.
“We agreed that in the near future we will hold talks at the level of heads of space agencies of China and Russia. They will discuss the expansion of cooperation in the space services market”, – said Rogozin. “This is primarily satellite navigation “Beidou” and “GLONASS”, – he said.
A record package of documents may be signed during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China, which will take place on May 20-21, at the moment there are 43 documents in the elaboration, one can expect the signing of about 30 of them, said presidential aide Yury Ushakov.
“The package, which we have now, is probably a record one, but it’s difficult to say what will come out of it. Probably about 30 of them will be signed,” – Ushakov told reporters.
According to him, there are being prepared a lot of bilateral, intergovernmental, interdepartmental and corporate documents.
According to him, some of the documents will be signed immediately after the talks between Putin and Xi Jinping, and some of them – during the meeting between the two leaders with representatives of the Russian and Chinese business.
Russia is grateful to China for an objective position on Ukrainian events, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov after talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
According to Lavrov, the use of force to settle the situation is unacceptable.
Wang Yi stressed that China “is not interested in further destabilization of the situation in Ukraine.”
Lavrov noted that the presidents of Russia and China would meet more than once this year, including the BRICS, SCO and APEC summits, the latter will be held in Beijing.
“Today we have discussed the preparation for the main event of the year – the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China and our president’s participation in the meeting on Interaction and Confidence in Asia, to be held in Shanghai in May,” – said the Russian minister.

After the negotiations between the Minister for Development of the Far East Alexander Galushka with the President of China Development Bank Zheng Zhijie there was stated about the readiness of the bank to allocate $ 5 billion for the development of projects in the Far East, the press service of the Ministry for the Far East Development stated.
The parties also agreed on the priorities of investment cooperation, including creating areas of advanced development in the Far East, the financing of infrastructure development, the implementation of long-term investment projects in the Russian Far East.
